Where in the UK should you go for a walking holiday

Over the years, walking holidays have grown a lot in popularity. They offer so much, which is why they are regularly being booked – you get to see a country whilst also getting to be active. Plus, a lot of the places you visit are often untouched and unspoilt, allowing you to experience destinations in a far more natural and peaceful way than you would on a traditional holiday.

The UK, out of all the places in the world, is somewhere that offers many great spots for hiking. You’ve got Scotland, Wales, England, and Northern Ireland all offering completely different landscapes and walking experiences (and just next to the UK, you have walking holidays in Guernsey, which also has some great hikes).

To help you decide on where to go for your next hiking trip in England, below are three places to consider for your next walking holiday. From Cornwall to the Cotswolds and the Lake District, there is plenty to choose from.

Lake District

The Lake District is one of the most popular places in England for hiking, and it is easy to see why. Located in the north-west of the country, the region is famous for its stunning lakes, rolling hills, and mountain scenery. It offers walking routes for all abilities, whether you want a gentle lakeside stroll or a more challenging climb up mountains such as Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England. The hiking holidays in the Lake District can be booked for a few days or over two weeks – it’s down to how much time off you can get to explore this wonderful spot.

Cornwall

Cornwall is one of those places you have to visit at least once in your life. Some would say it’s a bucket list destination as it showcases some of England’s best countryside and coastline all in one place. Plus, you can also book a spa break (there are some stunning spa hotels) and combine hiking with a relaxation breakaway – a great combination. After a day of walking, you can enjoy fresh seafood, cosy pubs, and the laid-back atmosphere the county is famous for. Just make sure you don’t forget your camera, as you need to spend time capturing everything you see.

Cotswolds

For those looking for a slower-paced and more traditional countryside walking holiday, the Cotswolds is hard to beat. The area is famous for its landscape (and Clarkson’s Farm). Walking through the Cotswolds allows you to experience some of England’s most picturesque countryside while enjoying welcoming pubs, local tea rooms, and historic market towns along the way. It is an ideal destination for walkers wanting relaxing routes and charming scenery rather than difficult climbs. A walking holiday in the Cotswolds often includes discovering the picturesque landscapes, seeing the ancient stone-built churches, and tasting typical English dishes.

Have you been to the Lake District, Cornwall, or the Cotswolds before for a hiking holiday? Where do you normally visit for your hikes?
